Learn About Beavers and Streams at Sizerville State Park’s Upcoming Nature Programs
Sizerville State Park invites residents and visitors to enjoy two engaging environmental education programs the weekend of July 25–27, designed to immerse participants in the wonders of Pennsylvania’s natural world.
The weekend kicks off Friday, July 25, with “Film in the Forest: Beavers” at 8 p.m. at the campground amphitheater. Park staff will begin the evening with a short presentation on beavers—often called nature’s engineers—exploring their ecological importance and historic ties to the Sizerville area. After the talk, a nature-themed film will be shown under the stars. Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks, a blanket, and settle in for an evening of outdoor learning and entertainment.
On Sunday, July 27, at 1 p.m., the park will host a hands-on “Stream Study” near Pavilion 3. This family-friendly program gives participants the chance to wade into the stream and search for macroinvertebrates such as stoneflies and crayfish. The session includes a brief talk followed by guided exploration of the stream’s ecosystem. Expect to get wet—water shoes, swimsuits, and towels are recommended.
Both programs are free, but registration is encouraged. To register, visit the DCNR Calendar of Events website, search for Sizerville State Park, and click the “Register” button beneath the program listing.
In the event of severe weather, programs may be moved or cancelled. Visitors requiring accommodations for disabilities are encouraged to contact the park office at (814) 486-5605 at least one week in advance. Interpreters for the deaf or hard of hearing are available with prior notice.
