The Most Anticipated Movies of 2026
Even though the Academy Awards for the films of 2025 are still two months away, a new movie year is upon us. Here are the movies we can’t wait to see and cover in 2026.
“Project Hail Mary” (March 20) - Ryan Gosling plays a high school science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with no idea how he got there, soon learning he’s on a mission to save the Earth’s sun from dying. Early word on this movie is through the roof.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” (May 1) - 20 years later we’re getting a long-awaited sequel to the beloved Anne Hathaway/Meryl Streep comedy about the fashion world. The original is downright beloved, and this has a lot to live up to.
“Disclosure Day” (June 12) - This is a big budget UFO movie directed by Steven Spielberg, who turns 80 years old later this year. It could be the last film of this scale he ever makes.
“The Odyssey” (July 17) - Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of one of the most totemic stories in human history features some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Every Nolan movie is an event, but this epic has the potential to go all the way to Best Picture.
“The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth” (Undated) - David Fincher is directing a sequel to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” starring Brad Pitt with a script written by Quentin Tarantino. I cannot believe this is happening. Produced by Netflix, they better give it a theatrical release.
“Digger” (October 2) - Details of this plot are a little vague, but we know it’s an original dark comedy directed by Alejandro Iñárritu and starring Tom Cruise. After a decade of playing nothing but secret agents and pilots, we can’t wait to see Cruise doing something new.
“Dune: Chapter 3” and “Avengers: Doomsday” (December 18) - Right now two of the biggest franchise sequels of the year are scheduled to release on the same day. But unlike “Barbenheimer,” “Dunesday” is two movies competing for the same audience. It’s likely one of these release dates will move, but for now it’s our most anticipated double feature of the year.
